I bought this same camera from Woot a few weeks ago and used it on our Disney ride. It takes beautiful 1080P video and takes decent still shots. You could do the same thing with your smartphone of course, but I don't like to carry my delicate, expensive smartphone on the trail.
I'm very happy with this Samsung camera. It powers on and off very fast so you don't miss opportunities. I haven't had it long enough to know about battery life except I can tell you I used it for 2 days of riding and took over 20 minutes of 720P video and over 100 photos without need to charge.
The buttons are large enough to be used with moto gloves on, which means less photo ops missed.
