KLR doo replacement
Just ordered a new doo from arrowhead, is there anyone in the K.C. metro area who can help me swap this, or should I just have Shawnee Kawasaki do it. I've read that it's not hard I'm just not very mechanically inclined.

There's a guy that posts on ADVrider that goes by "RW" that seems to know a lot about the KLR innards that is a local.
I was leary to tear right into it when I first got mine, so I paid Mr. Wizard (posts on BTK) to do it and a valve adjustment. I am in need of a valve adjustment soon, but I plan to do my own this time.
If you haven't tried http://www.KLRworld.com, there are a lot of experts over there and a lot of great write ups that would make it easy for about everyone. You might post over there and see if anyone offers to give you a class. If you set something up, follow up on here. I might be interested in watching too just to know my bike better.
There has even been a little talk about a KC tech day soon, so you might check that option out as well.

Bling factor, you crack me up. Its Eagle Mike btw and you can get it at Arrowhead Motorsports.JaySoy wrote:It's a piece of crap that looks about like a pop tab that breaks in the motor. Eagle-somebody sells a sweet shiny replacement made out of billet aluminum. I just got it for the bling factor, even though you can't see it.

It's easy to change. Did mine and two others with friends. There's plenty of info on the net on how to do this. You will need the "special" flywheel wrench and puller. You can usually find guys passing these around on the KLR forums.
Chances are, yours is not broken (you would know), and will not break. It's not a matter of when, it's a matter of if. Most of them don't break. It's become a panic issue of them breaking, and a piece of mind one on the necessity of replacing them, more than anything else.
For as cheap as the part is, and how easy it is to change, and a good excuse to see what's in there if you don't know, I'd do it. Well, that's why I did.
Good luck, although you shouldn't need any.

My new one from Arrowhead in Jan 07 was not aluminum.
I can help you change it also if you feel like bringing it to Liberty. I have the tools as well.
Doooooooo it!
P.S. Bring single malt scotch please! Most any label will dooooo.
