This is what scares me the most about that article:

"Charges of felony bail jumping..

The man (who was driving) has criminal convictions on drug-related offenses and a burglary. He also has more than four operating with a suspended license traffic offenses, according to online court records."

I omitted some of the text because who wants to read it again, it's horrific, but, I have no idea why, after, oh, the first three tickets for operating with a suspended license, nothing was done to keep this person off the road? So, yeah, a felony bond jumper, with criminal drug related charges and robbing from folks AND a record of not giving a shit whether or not he has a valid license or not - sounds like a heck of a guy to trust that he won't be out driving somewhere and grant him bail.

Granted there is a possibility that today's events had nothing to do with the driver's chosen lifestyle, perhaps it's just bad timing - wrong place, wrong time, but, even if we take of all that into account - he shouldn't have been out on the road.

And why in the world would his mother let him drive her car? Surely she knows about his issues? Right?

It's bad enough that accidents happen, and it is even worse that motorcyclists are on the wrong kinetic end of these types of accidents, but, to hear of one, where the driver should have not even been on the road in the first place just makes it more senseless than it already is. If that is even possible.

Not trying to start a debate on today's current judicial system, I'm just venting a bit, but, sometimes, I just have to shake my head and wonder - if repeat offenders, or people who show no willingness to live by the general accepted rules of today's society are going to continue to be shown there are no real repercussions to their actions - then why bother with it? Just chuck it all and move on.

And finally, this is what makes me a bit happier:

"All of the motorcyclists were wearing helmets. There is no doubt in my mind that there would have been more fatalities associated with this if people did not have helmets on,” Georgen said."

I have worked along side of the justice department for many years and seen how it is not designed to rehabilitate the wicked. If you watch the wheels as they spin, then it becomes more clear, the system is a trap designed to keep people in for long periods of time and all the while draining them of money and the will to better them selves. So don't expect the legal system will provide justice; just know however, justice gets done eventually, in some round about way.
