Todays Ride

Post by moriver »

I wanted a little seat time before the rain so I headed out. I left Platte City and had no clue what I wanted to do but it ended up about 40 miles of refreshment. My first stop was Weston Bend State Park. I made a trip around the campground and gave a look to the site my wife and I camped in a tent many years ago with are 12 mounth old son. It was cold that night, I remembered it like yesterday. Heading south past Farley over the Platte River bridge. Much horseplay happened under that bridge. Next past Waldron and a stop at the rail road tracks under the 435 bridge and the Parma Woods area. As a kid we used to ride our 4 wheelers up that big hill as you go in Parma to the left and to the right it was a big ledge you could get a truck up there. Music, fire and again more horseplay took place here. You know 20 years ago was a long time ago but it really took me back. If you are in that area turn down the road at the Parkvilll Sewer Treatment Plant. That is just on the Parkville side as you go under 435 on River Road. At the end is a little bridge that you can ride over and make it to an old graveyard. One head stone showed "Geo T Naylor Died 1857". The plot does have a fence aound it but I have dropped by while killing time for years and its always unlocked and well tended. I thanked the Naylors and went on my way. Its a funny thing to do but thanking a grave site is my strange way of paying respect I guess. On to Parkville and the park. I grew up in Parkville and its nice to go back and see the area. We used to get Malts at the old drug store downtown. Those were the days. I am ready for the week ahead and it only took about 40 miles. Ride and see the world my friends, sometimes it is close to home.....

I have rediscoverd the county I grew up in riding the backroads of it.

There is a quaint old cemetary near where I live , I too often stop at, and enjoy the quiet and solitude. I wonder about the lives lived of those people who are resting there, some for way over a century.
