Ok, so here's the back story on this bike. I bought this thing back in '08 after having a crf450r for harescrambles. I was tired of kicking the 4-stroke and wanted something lighter, so I found this on ebay over in missouri. $1400 later and it was in my garage getting the HS goodies transferred over. It was in the fall of '08 that BMW came out with the 450x and i just had to have one, so i bought the first one Omaha had. Promptly broke my wrist and so it sat around unused until the wudi ride in spring of '09. I took both bikes on that trip and boy was I glad for that! After riding the 450x for a half day i hated it, more than anything in the world! So the ol' CR came out of the trailer and finished the weekend for me.

Later that spring had the fortune to ride Mushman's 3-honey, and a few weeks later I had a new '09 300. So the CR sat around until that summer when I finally felt bad enough for it sitting around and let it sell. A local kid bought it for $1800 and promptly blew the motor up! It had Racetech suspension, 18/21'' excel's and lots of other cool items that wouldnt move over to the new 300 so they all sold with.

Fast forward to about a month ago, and im dirtbike-less. I had been looking around for something "cheap" as I have a new hobby that requires cubic dollars to maintain and believe it or not, I just dont want another new bike. So i started calling the local kid who had my old CR and pestered him into selling it, for $1000!! I knew it was blown up, I didnt know it was in pieces!

Here it is back in '08 when I was racing it, looked good huh?!

In the meantime while Im rebuilding the CR, I needed something to ride. So, I found a guy on advrider from austin texas that wanted a RT and I wanted a 950 Adv so we traded. Between the crawler and the dirtbikes I probably only rode the RT 3 times last year. Kind of sad, I know, so I though it was time for something new(or familiar at least, I had an '07 990). We meet in OK City and did the trade, just got the tag transfered today!
Looking forward to some weekend dirt road trips!

Both bikes look very sharp. I'd like to try out a 690 & 950 someday.

So the above pic of the CR was taken 4 years ago when i had it all shiny and new like! After sitting in pieces for the last 3 years this is what it looked like when i picked it up! Everything else was in a plastic tote!

Image

Quite a difference huh?! So im not the greatest at taking pics and documenting my progress so I missed the bare frame pics and getting it cleaned up. Here it is put back together somewhat. So far Ive replaced every bearing on the frame/swingarm/linkage and wheels. Cleaned up and buffed the major frame areas. You'll notice the new black plastic so far, I also picked up a 3.7 gallon clear tank. Also got my Flexx bars(that were bought new for this bike 4 years ago!) and GPR damper(also bought new on this bike!) put on. Really had to file and grind away on the neck of the frame to get the post mount on. i dont remember it being a problem back in '08, GPR must have changed it.

Here is what ive got done so far:

Image

Also reinstalled the Pro Moto Billet Kickit Kick stand, bought new by me 4 years ago, and the new IMS Pro series pegs. A new TM Designs chain guide is on outback. If you look in the background of both pics you will see the changes coming along on TY's bike!

How about your prize be a test drive of my 950?! You'll like how it pulls, these things are all motor! The po had it dyno'd in austin to dial in the carbs after putting on the exhaust. It pull 89 HP at the rear wheel!

I WANT IN ON THE PRIZE! Really I have been drooling over those since they came out. I would even let ya try out my streetbike since Im still dualsportless. Its an 07 Suzuki GSXR1000, it dyno'd 163hp at the wheel last spring.

OK so the easy hint is the black plastic for aluminum framed honda. The HUGE hint is in the top pic showing its a dual radiator bike with the Y shaped coolant hose in veiw. 99 was the last year for the big single radiator. Looking at the lower end you can tell that its not a cable operated RC powervalve that came out in 02. Hondas cr250r 00-01 motors were the best of their 2strokes. 02 and later and the RC PV valves were hard to keep crisp and suffered jetting probs that made motor feel even worse.

Hondas 00-01 cr250's are great all round 2stroke dirtbikes........

And WOW, it looks like you know your old CR's! Those reasons are exactly why I have an '01! And to the "Blue is Better" comment, that is partly why i bought my old bike back. I rode a friends yz with the maxpower bigbore and wow! I didnt like his brakes but i did like that yamaha seat!

Well some more progress this weekend, IT RUNS!!! F-YEAH ME! I have to be honest, getting a box of parts to a running bike had me a little worried. I have a few left over bolts, but in my defense, when I got to a point I couldnt find the right bolt in the box the PO had put together I went and got one from my spares. Im not sure what is bigger news for me, the bike running our my new family member, here he is sleeping while I check the squish on the big bore! His name is Scout.

Still have the seat to do, my staple gun couldnt penetrate the sdg seat frame, crap! The new big bore sounds really mean, the Q isnt as quiet as ktm and im kinda bummed about that. It(the Q) was really quiet on the GG, I wonder if this motor is just louder.

Well, here it is done! Ok, not quite done. I still need to get the headlight working. But, i did get to ride it some this weekend and my oldest took time off his xcw to ride it also. He was impressed with the power, says youre going a lot faster than you feel like you are and that it does it so quickly. Im still unimpressed with the fmf q pipe, wish it were quieter. I might start looking for a used db snorkel. He also didnt like the suspension, but he is 60# lighter than the legs are set-up for! His xcw is suspended so soft for his scrawny butt. All in all im happy with it, for now! Edit: have to order a new front rotor, somehow this one is bent!

I did have some comments but I'll keep them to myself for now. When we going for a ride? I'm ready! Are you going to be able to tag that thing, is that the plan?

We're heading to St Louis this weekend for Super Cross so no riding this weekend. Milford is the 11th and Ty wants to race it so I think we'll be there. We need to hit up perry one of these weekends.

And, why save your comments, lets hear them!
