Plating an XR650R in wichita

Here's my first question as a member.
Has anybody gotten any bikes plated around wichita lately? I am picking up a xr650r with AZ title soon and am looking for any tips or suggestions to make plating it easier?
Thanks from the new guy.
Let me here the stories of failure and why it failed it also. Maybe those will keep me from making a mistake.

Be prepared to get answers all over the map from "it can't be done" to "I just walked in and they gave me a tag".
I have some personal experience as well. Here is what I have to offer:
In Kansas, an out of state used vehicle must be inspected by the highway patrol before you can submit your title and get your tag at the DMV.
Folks have dug into the meat of the KS law and we are unable to find any laws to support the denial of plating a dirt bike if the proper modifications have been made. HOWEVER, fighting the state is a bad idea on a couple of levels. 1. You almost certainly will not get anywhere. Others have gone down that frustrating, fruitless road. 2. You actually risk raising eyebrows and drawing attention to the fact a lot of us do get our dirt bikes legally plated. The state does have the power to revoke registrations!
IN MY EXPERIENCE AND OPINION, it all has to do with WHO you have inspect the vehicle. DO NOT, for example, go to a Johnson County inspection office. I would not go to any metropolitan-based inspection office. While you are required to register (get your plates) in the County you live, your highway patrol inspection can be from any KS inspection office. Ideally you want to find a small town where the inspection officer rode to work on his quad! That guy will "get it".
Once you have your good inspection in hand, the DMV should not think twice about it. Just have your proof of insurance with you and ask for your tag.
I almost failed to get my registration in Johnson County on my "50 State Street Legal" 2008 Husqvarna TE450 because, as the inspection officer told me, "It has a high front fender--it's a dirt bike." This was compounded by the fact the rare bike was not in his search system. I had to make a lot of calls and come back later to finally get it done.

Thanks, that's what I'm looking for. Personal experience of how and where you got it done.

The inspector may pull the cables back and look at the head of the frame for the VIN. If so, the sticker plainly says "For closed course competition use only." on the R model. That will get it denied. I do not know how to get around that, if they look, other than PhotoShopping your own sticker with a street legal identification number on it from some legal bike (such as an '07 or later KTM 450/525). This identifier is not the VIN. Replacement frames have the VIN stamped on them just in case the stock sticker, uh, fell off somewhere.

I had my 2nd KLX tagged this last week here in ICT. She pulled back the cables and was looking at the sticker on the head tube. The cables had worn some of it off but she was looking for one word. CONFORMS. She said if that word is not on the head sticker, she cant pass it through inspection.
Hayden.
BTW. My XRR was tagged already in KS when i bought it. It has nothing but a tag on the back and thats it. How that got through i have no Idea.
