Im wondering how in the world that doesnt interfere with the Brake Caliper on the rear. I have dented my pipe pretty good from hitting the Brake Caliper landing big jumps. Location of the dent is right on the bottom side of the pipe. Im guessing with the 2 stoke pipes it is small enough that one would not have this problem but on a 4 stroke?
My XRR has a whole cut out section molded into the pipe to accomidate the brake caliper. So there is clearance issues to start with for sure on that bike. I would check into clearence Troy if you are considering this thing. Put the bike on a stand and take out the rear shock. Pull the Swing arm up and see where it hits on the pipe (if at all) then see how far this piece will hang down and check it again. I bet there is going to be clearence issues.
Personally I like the set up Sean has with the turned down extention on his pipe.

They do say it is for "2 strokes", so I guess it's not designed for my 4 stroke anyway. It's kind of a monstrous contraption....but I'm very interested in making my TE450 quieter. Troy, you could try the Red Green approach.....
Just get out yur missus Kirby. Take off that thar thing a ma jig hose . Grab yur handyman's best freend - duct tape. This is the impotent part.... be sure ta use two full rolls when you fix that thar hose on yur cycle. Back it thar up wit 10 lbs. of baling wire... if ain't got no wire, cut the cord off that thar Kirby.

It works well to cut down the noise. As for power loss I have not really been able to test it due to the weather, but I guess because of its more restrictive nature I will loose some top end / max rpm HP, but on the other hand I will gain a bit of low to mid end torque, which is more practical for trail riding.
Anyway the minimal loss of HP is worth the noise reduction. I'm a big proponent of trading lightly both on the trail and the ears. This is the only way we will be able to preserve our riding areas. (Hopping off the soap box now... )"

NOBODY runs with that stock pipe with the 20lb cat converter. It really is like 20 lbs, and crazy big. I have a really hard time remembering how loud my bikes are. But once in a while I see somebody ride by. Puts it in perspective when you can hear them coming from miles off (and you don't have a helmet on muffling things).

Yeah ... Hayden, BGG, and I were out in Moab last March and came up quick behind a cyclist on Whale Tail sand road in Arches NP. We slowed and he finally heard us when we were only about 100 ft or so away. We stopped to chat and he commented, and complemented us, on how quiet our bikes (3 KTM RFSs with stock exhausts) were. I asked if he was serious and he replied in the affirmative. My old 1000cc BMW inline 4 had a straight through (non spark arrested) perforated pipe inside the can (much like what the TT post shows for an Arrow). Between the inside perf pipe and the silencer can was supposed to be fiberglass packing. As I got the bike used I didn't know it was supposed to be quieter. On opening there was none. Adding the packing around a straight through pipe made an enormous, surprising, difference in quieting down the bike. And I still had blue flames shoot out the back on throttle chop decel! Cool.
If packing isn't the issue, I looked up Arrow's website and found spec sheets for a 2006 TE exhaust (the newest year they list):

Note the dB killer insert #23? Does your exhaust have something similar? If not, can you get one? If you already have one, then if affordable, perhaps getting a spare and you and I come up with some sort of modification involving exhaust packing and reverse flow.

Ditto on repacking results. I had a couple exhausts with a tinny exhaust sound. Once repacked, the tinny sound was gone, leaving a lower exhaust sound.

The Arrow pipe was brand new in mid 2008. Relatively speaking, I don't ride the TE450 much. Perhaps 15 to a max of 20 days per year. I don't race--so the riding is more putting on tight trails.
That pipe has less than 30 days of relatively easy riding on it. Should I seriously consider that my pipe needs re-packing?

Yes ... but mainly to open it up and determine if it has enough packing. Reading one of the threads I posted, a Husky Arrow user made the comment that his pipe had little OEM packing in it. They aren't that hard to open up and at least you will know.
