Well, As in most aspects of dual sporting it's pretty much all about compromise. Personally, I've been riding Kendas for the last three years without failure. As heat cycles are such an important consideration with dual sport tires it seems the most important consideration would be to find a tire that provides acceptable performance at a price point that will allow replacement on a seasonal basis. IMHO, whatever tire you choose, your best bet is to change it out every year....

The Shinkos are temping. I read some reviews on these tires. Shinko buys the molds for other companies when they discontinue a tire. They use modern rubbber compounds, that can make the tire better than original manufacturer. Supposedly a value priced tire because they don't have the R&D creating their own tread designs. Sort of the same as Kenda tires.

From what I read , the 244 is okay for street use, but really is not suited for gravel or off-road.

The Skinko 700 is more aggressive DOT tire. It's not a full knobby but supposedly performs pretty well as a semi-knob tire. Based off a Kings tire.

Haven't looked at what they produce in a off-road tire. Might be some possibilities....

We need to find something on ThumperTalk to see how it does on a DRZ400, or in other words a bike that weighs 100 lbs less.

Long ago I bought a XL250r. It had the Kings 966 tires the Shinko 700 is based from. Looked like a pretty nice tread pattern for DS. The problem was the tire had been on the bike for a loooong time, I tried to ride it on trails and had no traction at all. Checked the tire and it was rock hard, almost had to cut it off the rim. A new soft tire would be a lot different.

I just bought a pair of Michelin T63 dual sport tires for $114.00 shipping included from M/C Superstore. Have read good things about them on various sites and decided to try. Not as aggressive as 606 or Metzler 6 days but hopefully not as sketchy on pavement.
If we ever get some "global warming" I'll try them out.

I'm of the same mind as Troy and I look for the wear abilities of the tire and not so much the performance. With my limited riding skills I doubt that I will out ride any tire that I have.

But if the Millville makes Hayden ride like he does, I guess I might try them when the 606 wears out.

I know some people on Thumper Talk are using trials tires with good success. Has anyone try one????

3 reasons I haven't tried a trials yet
I don't see many ppl riding them on the road
Soft and squishy to conform to rocks
Too narrow for my taste

Longevity is nice but at about 39% of tread left I'm ready to try something else. That and fresh tires just feel so damn good is the dirt and grass!

One minute I'm thinking I'm going to get 2 mt-21's, the next minute I'm thinking of trying a cheapo set for less than half price. Go thru them and mount up something else to try...

Anyone have a depth guage of a new 606 or an mt-21? I just checked mine yesterday and see that at 1600 miles, my 606 rear tire is 8mm in the center and 14 on the sides.

Oh and I just saw Pirelli makes a DOT trials tire; MT-43.

Welp I ordered a cheap set of c755's. I'll take some pics if anyone cares to see'em. I'll take it easy on them and scrub'm in, then let it rip and see how they hold up to the 450. BRRAAAP!

Just an update in case anyone comes across this in the future. Don't get the C755's. They suck azz!
And a new rear 130 606 is 15mm deep.
