New ride destinations?

Post by MacWildcat »

I was tinkering around in Google Earth the other day and came across a tagged missile silo in Wabaunsee county. I remembered being on a wheat harvest crew in Wyoming and cutting wheat around active sites, always gave me the chills.
I decided to research missile silos in Kansas. I came across a Google Earth file that pinpoints every silo in the U.S.! Lots of good spots to add to rides as a point of interest. Most sites have been renovated into living quarters or storage, but some sites in Kansas are truly abandoned/accessible.
My brother-in-law took me to a site near Kingman KS a couple years ago, took us awhile to find it since there isn't any large billboard proclaiming "Here's lies death and destruction".
Anyway, here's the link the the Google Earth file that has all the sites waypointed (Near the bottom of the page it states "download file")
http://www.gearthhacks.com/dlfile15982/ ... -sites.htm

Kind of chilling to see how many sites were placed within a couple miles of towns. Guess this is my current bored and snowbound activity.

A couple weeks ago I was reading up on ray county missouri historical sites and visited the site where Wm T, (bloody bill) Anderson was killed about a mile north of Orrick MO.

There's one near Dehlia that looks promising as a abandoned site. Zooming in on the satellite image lets you determine how maintained the site may be.

Any links or reviews? Are there any major legalities involved, ie. is it a class A felony to be in/near one?
