I need the boards help. I'm planning a ride south through the flint hills, then west through the gypsum hills ending at Dodge city. I'm doing as much of this as possible on gravel and less hospitable roads. I'm in need of the must see sites and must ride roads. Thanks.

Go to Adport.com, then click on bt kansas
Also get a Delorme Kansas Atlas, (available at most Walmarts)
Have a good ride, and if you're staying overnight, I could reccomend the Boot Hill B&B.

From what I have ridden, I would suggest Leavenworth, Topeka, Council Grove, Cassoday, Beaumont, south of Wichita. That is where my friend Hayden can chime in with suggestions.

As to routes, if you have Garmin MapSource, take a look at some of my routes and tracks:

Here is a small bit of road that is fun near Beaumont, KS. There is plenty of good stuff, but I don't have it all conveniently mapped. Hayden knows some good stuff between this area and Wichita, so hopefully he'll find time to reply.

Just S of Beaumont, KS is a windmill farm. You can ride right up under them--very impressive.

Just got back from a ride through that area last weekend. Look at the map area just east of Cassody there are alot of oil field/ranch roads that are great. Nothing too technical but I'd say you have to have a little bit of off road skill. We were both on KLR 650 with a full load of camping gear. Last summer we also took Safiris' KC to Cassody route. I would definatley recommend.

Not sure which of these was used:

Note that I plotted these out a couple of years ago on maps but never actually rode them. Be ready to work around problem areas.
