Re: Who's riding this Sunday???
unless theres someone one who can help me with reinstalling my wheels. It looks as though I'll be unable to make it in the morning. My mechanical ability ran out about 3o min ago. things aren't lining up and I can't seem to find a solution.

Re: Who's riding this Sunday???
What kind of bike and what did you change while you had them off? Are both wheels giving you fits, or just the rear? I know my rear wheel can be a bugger to get back on.
Let us know. We'd hate to lose you since you inspired us in the first place.

Its the rear on a 2006 klr 650. I wrapped the weheels in some new dunlop d606 dot knobbies. been trying to get the rear one back on for a while but just can't seems to get the axle to line up. theres also a spacer on the rear sprocket I'm unsure of which way it goes back together. I'm gonna give it a brake for a few hours and go to a bbq and come back to it later tonight.

I don't mind trying to get out your way a little earlier and helping you out. It should not be to big a deal to get it up and running .

Just got off the phone with David and he suggested the same thing. Let us know where you're located Harm and we'll meet at your place instead of BK, if that's okay?

Re: Who's riding this Sunday???
I had a BLAST today!!! Thanks so much for giving me a hand with installing the rear tire!!! It was great day to ride! I got little muddy really dusty definatley sweaty and only a little blood on my knee. I'd say that I had a little "get off" but since I got the bike back up before anyone got out the camera out so I'm gonna say that it took an unplanned pause. Anyways I just wanted to thank David H for showing us around and for everyone that headed from the KC. I'd love the chance to ride with you guys again.

Re: Who's riding this Sunday???
Yes, good ride today. I was looking forward to the flint hills-manhattan ride, but time just didn't allow. We should plan next sun for that one (again). If you guys are up for it??
I have been wanting to do a SE Oklahoma ride in the "boggy bottoms" state park in Atoka Co. OK. I hear it is amazing, and it's closer than some other areas in AK.
This trip could be done in a variety of ways:
1. A small group (4-6) rides all day (7 hours) to Muskogee, OK, from KC on the interstate. Mapquest says it's 4.5 hours by car, so I added a few for Motorbikes. Catch a cheap motel and double up in the rooms, crash, get up early, eat and head for Atoka co., which is about 45 min south. Explore the gravel roads a backroads of the area with researched maps for a few days and head home. There are lots of creek xings, water falls, river areas, and such. I sent off for the state park info from the local chamber of commerce, and I have maps of all the interesting sites.
2. Everyone trailers down to an arranged cabin in the area down there (I have info for that too, yes it's as cheap as Cass, AK) and we ride for 2-3 days and head home.
3. We rent a cargo van and get/borrow an enclosed trailer to put the bikes in and all go down together as a unit, and come home the same.
Just a thought. If I get no replies, I will probably go alone. Maybe in the Fall....Oct.
To "the harm":
I want to see you in more protective gear. Call me or e-mail me and I can give you info for basic Knee/ elbow protection. Trust me you will want to ride this way. This is the voice of experience (aka lots of high speed wrecks).
Electrician.

Re: Who's riding this Sunday???
I had a good day also! I usually pre program rides to follow a certain route. This time I left my GPS at home and we followed no certain route path. I knew most of the roads from memory and when I didn't we just trusted our luck. We found several very nice areas I had never been to before. One road turned out to be the find of the day, rocky, semi steep, muddy and ended at a surreal lake with Lotus and water lilies. I think it was the northern end of lake Perry, but who knows.
Our group was well matched in ability and all seemed to go well. at one point we lost the second of six riders, which is sorta hard to do. 5 minutes later we were back together. Our goal was to get to at least Wamego, but we never got closer than Perry lake. The day was great till about 1 pm, then it got to hot for my tastes ( old fart). As long as you were moving it was fine. The ride ended with a few hill climbs and trails at my farm. It didn't take too long for me to tucker out and my day was done. The Riders from KC had 30 more miles to go and I said my goodbyes and grabbed a cold beer to help me think about all the fun I had just had.
Lets try for another ride soon, David h

I'd go for 2/3. I have a F250 Crew Cab that can hold 5 people and a bike trailer with locking bike shoes for 4 bikes, trailer can hold up to 6 if put on there right.
But, it would need to be at the first of Nov. for me to go. Other out of town trips already planned.
As for next Sunday maybe, I would kind of like to see the North route up towards Atichson?

Re: Who's riding this Sunday???
Oh ya, as for yesterdays ride it was good to see some new faces.
Our group consisted of 6 riders. Which 3 of us rode in from KC, on our way home we kind of veered off the track a bit. And did a little trail blazing (also, know as a "terd hunt" in certain circles). We ran through weeds go North that went up to the bars and came to a ravine that didn't look safe to go down, just because you couldn't see the hill it self. So, we turn around and head South and finally come out into a field. At the same time a buck jumps out of the wooded section we are running beside and runs across the field. Now we think we are home free. Wrong, we follow the field around to a wooded section. That has the handle bar high weeds along side it. Following this path we come to some off camber that again didn't look safe enough to try and cross do to the weed height. So, down into the 100 yards of woods to get around it. After a bit of work and about 10,000 spider webs. We come to another field. Thinking cool we are out, we head towards the far side of the field to only find the gate locked. So down the fence line we go to find a opening, which we did near the end of the fencing. And off to home we went. Good times....

Definitely a great day riding! Looking forward to another one soon. How about the KS Dakar (Atchison, White Cloud) next Sunday?

Re: Who's riding this Sunday???
nice pictures. The Dakar can be trimmed by a few miles with no noticeable effect. and it takes a lot of time to do the whole ride. I would suggest we start at Lawrence at 7:30 or Tonganoxie at 8 . earlier would be better. This ride can only be done semi wet or dry so keep that in mind. I have tried it several times and only finished it twice. I will help with the lead if needed, or run tail gunner. It is a fun route, but not for beginners or the timid. Dry, anyone can do it on almost any
Another choice would be a route to Atchinson and back which takes about 7 hrs, and save the Dakar for some cooler weather.
