Now you have to post a YouTube link to a video of Fake ID in action! :-)
We don't do YouTube we are a FB band. Hope this works watch it all the way and you see a good idea of the fun! Kids have come a long way.

The weather doesn't look too promising. Lawrence & Topeka are really going to get hit. The hare scramble in Carbondale on Sunday has been postponed again. What is your guess for Saturday in Manhattan?

Not camping--staying at Luc's B&B.

Rachel & Haili attend Manhattan Virtual Academy. This is their field trip on Fri:
Kernel to Plate 2019
All MVA students are invited to join us for a day of wheat exploration including milling wheat kernels, preparing bread dough, baking pizzas (and eating them!), and a visit to the USDA Research Bake Lab.

Dr. Rachael Barr, M.D., MVA parent, and Ryan Likes, professional baker and MVA parent, will be our guest presenters in the kitchen at the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, located at 612 Poyntz Ave., on Friday, September 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m..

Stu,

Weather forecast is 40% chances of rain for Saturday, so technically speaking, higher likelihood of not raining ;-) I'll keep watching the radar and keep this thread updated. As far as riding, unless it is tremendous amount of rain, we should be able to ride, trail got overgrown enough this summer that is should not get super slimy.

Looks like rain will hold off until later in the afternoon.

Luc, Kira:
Thanks so much for hosting this event! The weather was cooperative, camaraderie great, trails excellent, etc. Looking forward to the next one, whether it be so cold (29oF) the little bikes wouldn't start (2017), cool and soaking wet (2018), or 80s and partly sunny. You've cut in some really nice single track since I last explored back in the woods.

The quote above is what I heard on our drive back to Kansas City. I think it sums up why we do this. It validates the effort and expense Luc & Kira put into a day like this.

THANK YOU!

That quote was from Haili, my daughter's best friend. Haili's brother, Lucas, also learned how to ride a dirt bike that day. Thanks to safiri Mike, Lucas had a yamaha 125 to ride all day long---and I mean all day long. Other than a few breaks to drink water and eat a sandwich, Lucas never stopped riding! Here is safiri Mike helping Lucas understand the clutch:

Can we come to the next one?!

Thanks to all of you who helped me with the kids learning how to ride!

This big guy didn't seem to mind the motorcycles buzzing around at all.

Larry & Greg, always a pleasure to cat & mouse through the trees! Joe & Joni, thanks for coming and for swapping your 300 for my 500. I hope you enjoy the big 4-stroke. I'm already loving the 300!

It was fun to watch Leonce and Gavin tearin' it up on their matching Kawasaki 85s!

A great group of folks and a perfect day. :-D

And another thank you to Luc and Kira for opening up your home and acres for us to putt around on! This year was hard on the old man, no boys to ride with. Last year was hard too, but for another reason....... :-) Also bitter sweet trading off my two-stroke, kind of like putting the last nail, in the end of an era. What to do with myself now............................... :crying:

Anything is possible, but with this new business venture HIGHLY doubtful. The old days of Joe buying whatever bike he wanted are sadly behind me.

Here is what to do ;-)

New Adventure Raid class:
The new Adventure Raid class replaces last years Safari Class. Adventure Raid is intended as an introduction to navigation rally without the stresses of racing and most extreme terrain. It is a guided trip, designed for street legal 4 wheel drive vehicles (Raptors, Jeeps and Overlanders) and adventure motorcycles (BMW GS, KTM 950, etc.). You will be running paved and dirt roads mostly parallel to the race course, with occasional intersections with the race course to provide opportunities to watch the action. You will not be running at race speeds or scored in results. Navigation is by following the guide and following provided GPS tracks. The trip will be at an easy pace to enjoying the scenery and the unique Sonora Rally experience, at points along the course and in the bivouac.

5 day guided trip that parallels the Sonora Rally
Proof of Mexican auto insurance required
May include a portion of a race-like paper roadbook to see what roadbook navigation is like (you may want a basic rally odomotor, like the $20 RallyBlitz app for iphone or the free F2R Rally Tripmeter app for Android). These apps are not allowed in the competition categories.
The Rally Comp device used in the race classes will not be used in the Adventure Raid class
Includes Sonora Rally Adventure Raid decals
Includes Bivouac Pass with bivouac meals and awards party dinner
Includes 4 nights in hotel (double occupancy). You will be paired in the room with your "navigator" or a fellow rider, or an event volunteer.
Camping 2 nights at remote dirt bivouacs (right in there with the competitors) using your own camping gear.
For cars, a vhf radio programmed to Sonora Rally frequency is highly recommended
A SPOT or inReach tracking device is required.
Limited spaces available, so don't wait to enter.
