2017 CMA Roads and Trails Rally 9/8 - 10/2017

CMA will be hosting the 2017 Roads and Trails Rally in Burlington, KS on September 8th through 10th this year. There will be organized dual sport rides on both Friday - September 8th and Saturday the 9th. Sunday the 10th is a riders choice day. Some can ride for a while - others will need to pack up and head home.
The rally is based at Kelley Park in Burlington, Ks. We will use the 4-H building as HQ with tent and RV camping available in the park. There are also two nice motels in town.
This area of the State has some nice roads to ride, some great unpaved Flint Hills roads and oil field trails. There is also an ORV area, Otter Creek, at the John Redman resevoir about 5 miles out of town. So the area really does have alot to offer regardless of riding style or type of bike.
The rally is open to anyone that would like to attend. If there are any questions please post them here OR send me a PM.
Thanks,

Burlington is only an hour from home so I may try to make this event. Could potentially do one day Dual Sport and one off-road. I've never been to the JR offroad area, anyone know what it's like and how big it is?
Thanks,

Otter Creek is pretty small and flat. Has a rock pile of sorts and trails through some trees and along the beach. Nothing technical or hair raising but it is worth a visit.

Is Otter Creek the same as the New Strawn off road area?

Good Morning,
We had the event at Wakefield for a few years and attendance began to drop off. We moved to Junction City for a couple of years. Now we are down in Burlington. We will stay in Burlington a couple of years and then move to a new site again. I think folks get tired of riding the "same ol' area" so it's fun to switch it up a little bit. The benefit is that you get to meet new riders around the state and you get to experience some different riding terrain.
Burlington has been great to work with getting this set up and they are looking forward to the riders visiting their community.

It was on my radar but I couldn't make it the past couple years. I'll put it back up on my radar.

If anyone wants to add some details here, please do so:
OTTER CREEK ATV AREA AT JOHN REDMOND RESERVOIR
My brother and I rode here once about 10 years ago. Compared to most riding areas I've been too, this place, well, to use the technical term, sucks. However, it is a legal ORV area which makes it better than my suburban neighborhood for off-road fun. It is all relative!
I, too, have put the event on my calendar. Sounds fun. I would probably opt to take my bigger ADV bike, ride there, and camp.

I went to Otter creek last spring when I got my KLR 650. Fairly close since I am in Emporia. It is a good place if you are getting used to a new bike as I was at the time especially a bigger Dual bike. I checked out most of the trails, stopped for a smoke and a few photos and think I was gone after 45 mins.

Good Morning,
I thought I'd jump on the forum and give a little boost to this event. It's still on and coming up soon.
I'll be leading the dual sport rides on Friday and Saturday the 8th and 9th of September. We'll see Coyne Creek and the Clements bridge on Friday and we'll range south to the Beaumont Hotel for lunch on Saturday.
There will be camping available at the park in Burlington for both tents and RV's. There are also two nice motels in town. So, lodging accommodations for anyone's taste.
Although the event is sponsored by CMA, you do not need to be a member to attend. We specifically host the event to invite anyone who still just loves to ride.
Remember when you feel in love with riding? Come ride with us.
