Moab 2016

Post by MrHix »

Hi,

I was planning a trip to Moab 1 - 9 Oct 16. I only got 1 person from the STL group I ride with to commit right now. We would like to have a couple more to ride the trails with us for safety.

We will stay about 4 miles South of town in a condo complex. Each condo very comfortably holds 4 and more can fit in more if $ is an object. Each condo has a 2-car garage, laundry, patio, etc. You also have access to a pool and hot tub (especially if you like more mature, hairy women). There are many great restaurants in Moab and a Hospital that is first class (don't ask).

It takes about 18 hours of driving from STL, not including stops, so I plan on spending the night in the Denver area on the way out and somewhere in the Desolation of Middle Kansas coming home. It still gives 5 days of riding or maybe a break in the middle for some other event.

We really need a couple of fairly hard core riders for some of the trails, but most DS riders could manage many of them. Troy has been there and could probably help you decide on what you could ride comfortably. I have about 47 tracks to choose from, so it should not be repetitive, but it would be helpful, and legal, to have a plate on the bike. We have some pavement to ride on to get to some of the trails.

Let me know if you are interested!

Cheers,

Hey,

I have been going to Moab every April and October for the past 6 years. We will be riding out of the Monticello area this year. We have ridden Soveriegn, metal masher, poison spider, Golden Spike, the white rim, Dead Cow, the Dunes, etc. We also took the big bikes along last April and spent a day Riding the Lasalle Mountains.

There will be 13 of us meeting up out there in two weeks, but, it will break into two groups quickly - Four to six riders is usually the best size group. when I drive out I spend the night in Evergreen and drive the rest the next day. On the way back I usually drive straight thru.

Just back from a March trip. Do a search for "enduro loop". Takes you out to the dunes, Dead Cow, etc. Amazing area I had missed the past trips.

Safari,

We have ridden all of those. Cow Freckle is a great ride. We usually jump on the Enduro loop at Dripping Springs up thru The Dunes and out via (Guys Trail?) and all the way to 'the big drop.'

Just wish it wasn't such a long drive out there.

Exactly! I found a GPS track for the Enduro Loop so we went in mostly blind. Bikes are tagged, so we rode from Moab and did (most of) the loop anti-clockwise, starting at the furthest east point off 10 Mile Rd. Got to the "Big Drop" (a few miles from our start point), which for us was going to be the "Big Up". Got out the map and took 10 Mile Rd out. Two days later we rode out and did the entire loop clockwise. Awesome. Played in the dunes the second round. Lot of other trails up there we plan to explore next trip (two, long years away).

A few years ago we rode from Moab through Lockhart Basin, into and through Needles to Beef Basin / Bobby's Hole, found ourselves in several miles of 12" of snow over the mud (it was March) road north of Cathedral Butte, and finally made it back to Moab via pavement after sunset. The Beef Basin area is one I want to explore some more as there are cliff dwellings and rock art to see.

Mattern,

Have you made plans for October in Moab? If you don't mind, I would like to tag along.
