Quachita Arkansas jan 15-17

Post by ChrisCrash »

Sorry this is a repost. I accidentally Crashed it in the discussion forum.

Planning a ride though the Quachita National Forest this MLK weekend. I have been wanting to do this for a long time but just have not been able to pass up the other awesome stuff closer. Weather is looking good, esp for January with lots of warm recent days so hopefully there will be no ice like i got in the ozark NF last yr at this same time.
Wondering if anyone has recs for roads or areas to hit. There are three of us so far running on mid sizers. Plan is also to camp but that could change as it usually does on winter rides, esp if we get wet. Anyone know of some great camping areas--prefer rustic.
Winter riding is the best--no bugs, overheating and the leaves are down so the views are fantastic.
Also if anyone is interest just post back. We should have room for one more in my truck.

Sounds like a great time! Although, I have yet to meet any of the guys o this forum. Heard about it from a friend who crossed paths with some of you in Chadwick the day after I departed.

Anyway, I've been down to AR three times on my own. First time was in Mena - all UTV riding - no single track.

The following trip I went to a camp area just outside of Combs off of 16. When you hang a right and proceed West just the other side of Combs at the Mill Creek sign, there are dry camping areas down there along the creek that are pretty desolate and remote. FYI - others reporting the last couple of trips items in the campsite grew legs and walked out of camp like gas cans, etc. Just FYI.

My next trip I stayed in the campground at Mulberry Mountain and it had hookups and is usually empty this time of year. Link following if you are interested: http://www.mulberrymountainlodge.com/
Fairly remote area as well - we saw three bears (rather large ones) over the course of a single day, all about three miles apart from each other as we rode one direction away from camp.

Never found anything other than fast trails - I like technical mixed in there but it was good as my son was coming along on his KLX140L at the time. If I can ever hook up with someone who actually knows the area well and knows where the hill climbing is, I need to go!

Hey Captain thanks for posting. I have only been on a couple of rides with the guys and only know very few of them but there all great guys. As you can see in just a couple of days this post has had over 90 views and its January so im sure there is someone who knows where the hill climbs are. Combs and Mullberry are areas well known and loved areas on here.
Speaking of Combs, check out the WUDI ride that is posted. Its a great time and awesome time to learn the area by locals.
Look forward to seeing you on the trail.
