Carbondale

My family and I decided to go check out the area at Carbondale KS last Saturday. DanielKeimTS posted up that he was ready and willing to go ride the course as well. This worked out well, because I knew I could use the help keeping track of them. We arrived before Daniel. After we chatted with Paul for awhile, got the low down on the property, paid him money, we took off! We did a couple laps around his vintage MX track and then hit the hare scramble course. I think it was an 8 mile course.
About half way through Daniel caught up to us. I'm glad he caught us when he did because I could tell the kids were getting tired. They got a 2nd wind once he was following them. They told me later they were glad he rode with us to help them out. :)
Once we finally got back to the trailer, we relaxed, ate some snacks and had some drinks.
Then Daniel and I went and rode the course again at a quicker pace while my family went hiking and using their imaginations. They like to pretend they are on Dual Survivor. And of course my son saw an alligator in the pond. :D

This place is definitely worth riding!

Thanks for posting the video! I've never been to Carbondale, so had no idea it had terrain like that. Cool. What is the cost? What days/hours can you go?

Why is Carbondale not listed on our "where to ride" places thread?!

Get me a few details--like where is it precisely--so I can add it. 8)

The Santa Fe Cycle Shop is at Paul's House. Its like stepping back into the 80's. He leases the land and maintains the course. He charges $15 per person or $20 per family. I think he said it was 100 acres. He changes the course up and it varies from 7-9 miles. As far as I know he's always open.
To get there from Topeka:
1) Take US-75 south about 10 miles toward exit for Carbondale
2) Turn right (west) off the exit ramp onto Main Street, continue .5 miles
3) Turn left (south) onto Kansas Street (gravel), continue about 1 mile (at .5 miles name changes to Jordan Road)
4) Turn at mailbox on the left (east). His house and shops are right there.
14460 S Jordan Rd

There's a hare scramble race there next weekend.
It's awesome that a place like this is up and operational and is so close! I think we should have our next rideforum get together there.
