Flint Hills July 4th

A husband and wife team are hauling in from St Louis to sample the Flint Hills on the 4th and 5th. They ride 800, and 650 GS's. There post is up on BTK looking for someone to ride with, and they are staying at the Topeka KOA just 5 miles from my place.
I'm planning on hooking up with them and riding Friday the 4th for sure......... not positive about Sat. If someone wants to ride along post here, or go to the "who's riding this weekend" tab on BTK. Basically we're riding out of my place which is in NE Shawnee Co. I have room to park trailers.
We'll most likely run K-4 to Eskridge, and hit the gravel there. Probably 175 miles total blacktop and gravel.
Let Me Know if you have an interest.

I don't think I better press my luck and ask to go for a ride on the 4th. I don't know if we have any plans yet for the 5th though...

You can take them up North of I-70 on Sat. I might ride, but want to see how serious the weather man is about Thunder Storms in the morning.

I was pretty sure I posted on this but I think the board had a hiccup. Anyway, the plan I thought I posted has changed. We are meeting the St Louis couple at the Topeka KOA at 0930 and heading out closer to 1000. You are welcome to stop by my place first and ride over there with me or meet me there. We'll probably hit Alma around 11:00 if anyone wants to meet us there.

Had a great day ! Bob led a very cool track around Alma. Both Doug and Margo seemed to have a good time and thought the scenery was incredible. Margo got her backroads initiation on Little Egypt and pulled through like a champ.

The Flint Hills are in prime condition right now. I am sure you had a great experience.
Killing me to not have a bike running right now. Took the in-laws out in western Wabaunsee county.
Got the opportunity to fix my 3rd flat at Little Egypt...this time a truck tire.
Can't wait to get back to some group rides.

Thanks for the route Mac........................
"Margo" was pretty new to gravel, so we only ran the West loop, but came in on Sky Line from the East.
You are right about conditions, the road graders haven't been out for a while, and the Prairie was spectacular! Tons of grass, and many wild flowers. I kept the pace very slow....... 35 mph on the straights.......... to help her adjust. It was actually kind of fun to just putt along, and really spend some time enjoying the scenery.

Sounds like you all had a lot of fun out there and the temperature was nice to. Riding with new people is always a heck of a good time.
Reading this has got me thinking Wednesday when it's cool. Have to see this little Egypt....

If you head towards Little Egypt make sure you go by Box Turtle, Dawsons Hill. Taking a lap around Lake Wabaunsee is nice. Hwy 99 is fun too.

It's Box Turtle on one end and Nehring Branch on the other end... I think. In the middle is a washed out over grown section that everyone loves. It might be a bit rough on a Big Bike, and if you get in trouble no one will find you!
It will be really over grown with weeds too.

That's the bummer of riding alone, you usually have to forgo it or turn around if you feel its pushing your limit, and always turn it down a notch. Unexpected camping excursions ain't my thing.
Which reminds me - Thursday @ noon anyone starting @ Letko? Alma to Emporia in a 8 hour Flint Hills gravel zigzag? Back in KC area by 10pm...pm me.

If you're close I'd go by and check it out. Walk it to see if you'd like to try it. I have video of the roads if you want to see them.

I was thinking that too, same with Dragon creek crossing.
