5th Annual Bald Eagle Ride January 17-20, 2014

Mark your calendars for the most incredible ride of the year.

We will leave Friday morning and come back Monday, Jan. 20th (MLK Holiday).

The goal, like it has been in the past, it is ride east to the Mississippi River and ride along the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers.

For those that don't know or need a reminder, I DON'T share motel rooms. If you want to share a motel room find your own bunk mate.

As in the past, we could head in almost any direction.

UPDATE! Jan. 14, 2014

Meeting: Quiktrip at 1001 SW Blue Parkway (Basecamp map calls it SW 3rd Street.), Lea Summit, N38 54.677 W94 23.529. It is east of 50 highway.

Time: 10:00 AM

Confirmed Riders: Troy, Chris (Ozarkrider) and myself.

At this time the coldest day will be Friday with the highs in the 30's. After that the days look pretty nice. We will be heading east.

Stay tuned to this first post for any changes.

Additional Information
If all goes as planned:
Friday night will be in Cuba, MO.
Saturday night will be either in Grafton, IL or St. Charles, MO. Both are historic river towns. St. Charles on the Missouri, Grafton on the Mississippi.
Sunday night is a little up in the air but most likely Louisiana or Hannibal, MO but Quincy, IL is also a possibility.

Don't give me that crap. I know you are 100% in unless we can't get out of KC because of snow and ice.

I've already committed to being somewhere on the 18 & 19th. I should have looked at my schedule better and would have seen which weekend this was. Maybe I'll ride out with you until lunch and skip out and be home Friday evening. I was looking forward to this.

This ride has always separated the men from the boys. Men ride in January, boys make excuses as to why they can't go. I perfect example is Ryan's excuse "I've already committed to being somewhere on the 18 & 19th". Ryan I thought you earned you man card last year. Did you lose it?

Snow and Ice.

Despite being the coldest I've ever been in my life during the last 3 hours of last years ride, (strong head wind with no windshield, dark, 25 degrees), I'm ready to go again. Have you ever noticed how many of us are eager to go when it is sunny and 68 degrees outside and the cold winter is still a distant memory?

My only restriction other than cold,rain, ice snow, wind, is that I have to be back for a basketball game in Lawrence Monday night.

There looks to be a few brave souls (suckers) that are willing to follow me. Like the past years I hope to go to the Mississippi River north of St. Louis but if that area is cover in snow and ice we will head in a different direction.

Going to have to count me out after all. Damn.

Three strikes against me that weekend:
1. I'm on call
2. Co-worker is on vacation
3. My biggest customer going live on new version of software

Sounds good to me. I will put it on the calendar.

Due to my accident back in October, I too will have to bail as I have zero vacation days remaining until May. May. And, unless something changes with the vacation policy here at work, I may, in fact, be in vacation deficit at this point.

Ahhhhh, this weather reminds me of the last day of the 4th Annual Bald Eagle Ride.
