troy wrote:The hop up onto that huge log balance beam is really cool. However, the tractor tire double jump is insane...and the one on his practice track was small compared to the one in the real race. The rest of those obstacles I feel I could get through with some practice...obviously not competition worthy, but get through them.

How about adding a teeter totter to the mix?!
I had a feeling it was going to break...
The guy we rode with seemed to not stop at the pivot point, and smacked it down pretty hard, like the guy who finally broke it.

Especially when that teeter totter breaks in half ... with Troy on it. :D

I've seen a vid of a teeter but it wasn't that one. I saw a guy fall off into the water.

That practice enduro course looks cool but more than I care to attempt. I do like the bigger, taller balance log. But I'm not complaining as Kyle has started a cool complex to practice!

TEETER TOTTER :?: :?: :?:

HA! I already have the beams behind the barn and a design in mind to build it. Maybe we will have one next year.

For anyone considering trying a teeter totter that also happens to ride mountain bikes, I highly recommend a trip out to Clinton Lake's Mountain Bike Skills Course. They have several teeter totters to choose from including 3 in a row on flat ground.

I've seen those videos that you guys posted previously and always thought it looked like it might be fun to try. After attempting the ones at Clinton Lake, I'm not so sure I'd want to try one on a motorcycle, especially over WATER! It sounds silly, but when you get to the pivot point, you realize that you are fully committed and there is no going back. Not to mention, if you want to put your feet down there is nothing but 4-5 FEET of air between you and the ground.

It takes the perfect combination of balance, timing, speed control, weight distribution (both forward/back and side/side), etc. My hat is off to anyone who is good at it!

Kendall, the teeter totter would be for the good riders. Obviously not for you. You were so scared of failing the enduro challenge you made up some "real estate obligations" to skip out on the whole event.

Seriously, though, yeah...the teeter totter is an obstacle that I think is probably quite simple from a physics standpoint. However, it takes a lot of balls to commit to it on a 250+ lb motorcycle. I'm not sure I've got what it takes. However, if I could practice on a small one and work my way up to a larger one...probably could get there. I'm very hesitant to do anything on my motorcycle where a simple mistake almost surely means I'm getting more than a little hurt. This is why I suck so bad at jumping. I'm scared of screwing it up.

To all who attended the First Annual Rideforum Enduro Challenge: First of all, thank you for a great bunch of guys who helped make it a success. Nobody got injured (physically) and the event exceeded my expectations. Secondly, someone left a pair of all black polarized sun glasses on my kitchen counter where the food was exquisitely displayed. They fit really nice and I would not be disappointed if no one claims ownership. However, if you would like them back, let me know and I will see that they are returned.
Thanks,
Kyle
(I saw Troy today and he is still pissed at me for not rigging the scorecards so he could win a trophy)

Next year you should give participation awards. That way Troy can bring home some hardware.

Kyle do the glasses look like this?
If so, they're mine. They're all of about $4.

In all seriousness, I was riding some trails this weekend and came across a couple areas I've ridden many times before. This time they looked like a piece-o-cake after riding/practicing at Kyle's place. Thanks Kyle!

You're welcome, Savage. Come out and knock the weeds down on my track sometime, it's a good excuse to pick up your sun glasses...or $4.00, whichever you prefer!
