Possible Moto-hooky Tuesday January 29th?

Just spit-balling an idea here, but I just checked the weather and if the long-range forecast holds up, we're looking at a high of 64 on Tuesday of next week. It might be a good chance to do a local dual sport ride if any of you guys can get off work. I know some of you have not been feeling well and should probably take a break.
I should be able to get off without too much trouble myself.
I'm still itching to get out on the new bike and last Friday was just a teaser.
Anyone interested and able to go?

I may go hiking in Oklahoma, and hang out in a CCC cabin down there that day, but if that doesn't work out.......... I'll be available. Where where were you thinking about riding?

Well, now they've changed the forecast for Monday and Tuesday. According to the latest update Monday is going to be in the mid-60's and Tuesday is going to be in the mid-50's. I think I'm just going to keep an eye on the forecast and go whichever day is supposed to be nicer.
I hadn't given much thought to where I'm going. Most likely, it will be somewhere not too far from the KC area. The days are still a bit short and it takes a while to warm up in the morning, so that kind of limits how far out I can get. Maybe a run up north into Leavenworth/Atchison area. Also, there's a pretty good chance of rain on Sunday, so that may make the ride a bit more pavement and less dirt if it is going to be muddy.

NOAA sez as of this AM:
"Monday Night A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. Breezy, with a south wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Tuesday A 30 percent chance of showers before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 54. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.
Tuesday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28."
We've received 0.05" of rain so far in Lawrence. About the same over the KC area. Not much. Monday is predicted to get to 64.
Want to slither around at Perry?

Well- today is the day. I would have posted up earlier, but I didn't decide for sure until last night.
Stu- if I could get away with taking two days off in a row I might run out to Perry tomorrow to ride with you. Unfortunately, I can't really swing that, but maybe next time.

What a perfect moto-hooky day! Low wind, high temps, bit of rain to eliminate dust. Enjoy getting that big 990 out for a stretch, Kendall!

The ride yesterday was good. Definitely better than being at work- that's for sure! Two of my buddies and I ran up north to play around. We did the river road out of Leavenworth and then ended up in St. Joseph at one point before heading back towards home.
I continue to learn about the intricacies of riding a big bike. The roads yesterday were really greasy and I think the Pirelli Scorpions that are on the bike are not going to be the hot set-up. There were a couple of times that I had to slow down to first gear pace since the big 990 wanted to get into a fish tail on the greasy ruts! Of course, my buddies on their XR650 and KTM 625 with knobby tires just kept their normal pace through it all and had to wait up for me at the end.
All in all, it was a good day though.

That sounds familiar. Man we got tired of waiting for you to catch up on that TARKC Arkansas ride. HAHAHAHAHA! (I tried to wick it up and lose Kendall a few times down in Frog Bayou, but he had that DRZ stuck on my rear tire and would have easily passed me if it had been safe to do so!)

I have no plans of racing the 990 anywhere! I will definitely respect the fact that it is a 500 pound, 100 horsepower overgrown dirtbike, especially when the conditions aren't ideal!
I don't think I would have had a chance keeping up with those guys on anything though, let alone my new-to-me big bike on basically street tires. The two guys I was riding with are both B level hare scramble racers and are faster than me on just about everything.
I look forward to using the 990 for what it was intended for- trips like the Bald Eagle ride. I knew before I sold my DR-Z to get the 990 that I would want another DR-Z for the gnarly/fast dual sporting. Now I just need the money to go get another one!
