Maple Hill Loop Saturday 11/17

Who's up for doing the Maple Hill loop this weekend? Alissa and I were thinking about doing it Saturday. This is the third weekend in a row that we have tentatively planned it, but stuff kept getting in the way the last couple of weekends. As long as nothing unexpected comes up, I think we should be able to make it happen this weekend.

If anyone's interested, we'll shoot for kickstands up at 10:00 at the Maple Hill truck stop on the south side of I-70.

I would like to ride this loop sometime, plus it is close to home for me...But...I am on call for the third weekend in a row. :( Hopefully the next time someone rides this I can make it.

I might be in. How early are you thinking to start? Since I'm on the big bike this weekend I may ride down there.

You are on the big bike....did you sell the Husky?

I'm trying to figure a way to make this ride work and should know more in the next couple of days.

I think we're going to shoot for kick stands up at 10:00. I'll trade you bikes when we get to Box Turtle (for a fee, of course).

Nope, didn't sell the husky it's still broken. Been working on finding a new girlfriend, and haven't had any time to work on it. :D

Kendall, I'm in for sure. You won't have to swap bikes, I'll just go around box turtle, or you can help me when I high center the cylinders on that really big rut!

Let me know if the plan falls through or changes, otherwise I'll be there at 10am.

So are we gonna eat lunch at Puffy's?

You should find a girlfriend that can fix your bike- I call that multi-tasking.

I guess that BMW probably wasn't thinking about deep ruts when they designed that boxer engine. I guess that means if I ever get a Beemer, I'll have to go with a single or parallel twin.

As of right now, the plan is still on and I don't think it will change, so we'll see you at 10.

I'd never turn down the opportunity to eat at Puffy's, but with our start time of 10, it might be more of a late lunch/early dinner if we go there. We'll see how it pans out.

Any thoughts as to what time we would expect to be done? Doesn't matter a whole lot, just trying to keep Jessie in the loop so we can figure out Saturday evening.

I'm not sure which would be easier....sell a Husky or find a new girlfriend!

Nope not a joke, I have spent a lot of time in Romania in the past and there are a lot of attractive girls living there.

Speaking of attractive girls...I've got a date tomorrow night with my Missouri girlfriend and it would make it tough to get back in time from Maple Hill....I would need to leave Maple Hill by 3:00 at the very latest. Probably not going to make the ride so if I'm not there at 10:00 then I won't be there.

Exit 341 people! Be there or be square ;)

The real reason I am posting is so if that is the wrong exit someone will have the good grace to laugh at my stupidity and then call or text me to inform me that I am an idiot and should be in "x" location. Looking forward to our ride today!!!

No follow-up. I guess everyone on the ride died. Very tragic. Box Turtle road can be tough, but not THAT tough.

I had the privilege Saturday of riding the trails on Birdman's farm. VERY FUN!

It was a blood bath out there! Bike parts and body parts strewn about as if a bomb went off!

All in all, it was a good ride. Alissa and I, as well as Nick all trailered out and met at the truck stop a little after 9:00. I guess we were all antsy to ride and showed up plenty early. A little before 10:00, a disappointed Chris showed up on his R1150 GS with a detached shift arm. There was talk of him just turning around and going home, but he decided he might be able to patch it together and do the ride anyway. It turned out to be a good decision since his bike seemed to be fine for the rest of the day.

Shortly after taking off, I realized that he route I downloaded and my GPS weren't getting along and my internal GPS wasn't as accurate as I had hoped, so Chris ended up leading with his GPS. I missed one turn and decided that I might as well let him lead so we didn't end up doing too many u-turns. Of course my memory kicked in and I remembered every turn after that, but it wasn't a problem to bring up the back anyway. (Except for the dust- it was BAD!)

Other than that, this was sort of a tryout ride for Alissa on my DR-Z. I wanted to see how she would do on it since I was considering getting her one as her dual sport. She did awesome and confirmed that a lot of the problems she has been having lately could be attributed to the lack of torque in her KLX. I rode the KLX all day and realized that it definitely puts you at a disadvantage if you are not being overly aggressive with it. She was able to grunt right up the dreaded Box Turtle ledges without missing a beat on the mighty DRZ!

So if anyone is in the market for a nice 2006 KLX 250S, I will probably have it for sale in the near future.
