June 9-11: Where to ride?

Where's everybody riding this weekend? My initial plans to go to a friend's lake house for the weekend fell through, so I'm wide open to suggestions. Ideally, I'd like to do some trail riding on my new bike that I've only ridden once since I got it.

There was some talk of a Chadwick trip last night at the TARKC meeting amongst Randy, Chris, and myself. That is a definite possibility.

We also talked about running MacWildcat's Wabaunsee loop again- that would be a fun, more "local" ride.

What's everybody else thinking?

I am hoping to find time for a quick morning trip to Perry myself and then off to the kids ball games.

Looks like last night I spoke too soon about being available all weekend for Chadwick....turns out that I have an obligation for Saturday evening. Having said this, if a group is still going down I would at least go down to ride on Friday. Looking ahead at my calendar I would be available to go down there next Friday and Saturday, June 15,16 or I'm open the whole weekend June 29-July 1. Actually, my work schedule is very flexible this summer so I would be available most all weekdays.

If nothing else works for this weekend would anybody be open to riding that Wau...? route North of Topeka on Friday the 8th?

So it looks like the Chadwick ride is out- Chris mentioned in the TARKC thread that he had to pass as well. We'll get a plan going for a Chadwick ride in the future though.

So I guess that leaves the weekend riding plans wide open. I'm kind of leaning towards another Wabaunsee county ride out of Maple Hill. That was a fun ride (see MacWildcat's thread about it).

Any takers for that on Saturday?

Or I'm open to other suggestions.

Here's MacWildcat's thread about the last time we rode out there- http://www.rideforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1455

It was a good time- there was quite a bit of minimum maintenance roads, the infamous Box Turtle, fun and curvy gravel, etc.

We were able to run MacWildcat's loop on dualsportroads.com before lunch time, so there is plenty more to explore out there.

I'm gonna ride somewhere, but not sure if the Husky will be back in service this weekend. Found some missing orings on the chain last night.

The gs will be find on the waub... ride, but might be nice to find someplace new. If it wasn't so far I'd like to go see the swinging bridges.

I was thinking of using the route that we rode last time as a base route and doing some exploring off of it. Since we got done early last time, I figured we could expand on it and go find some new stuff.

Just mapped it to Maple Hills. Looks like 4 hours both ways from my house. I would have to be home by 5ish Saturday night. So not sure if the 4 hours of highway would be worth it. Not saying I am out just not 100% sure yet.

No problem- totally understandable if you don't want to make that road trip!

I've got one buddy that is a maybe via text, so we'll see if he commits when I talk to him later. I'll post a final plan when I know for sure we're going.

I'm in for sure if we start early enough for me to be home around 6:00....guess I could always break off early. My thoughts are to throw my bike in the truck rather than riding there.

Yeah, I'm definitely hauling out there. It would be way too long of a day to try and ride halfway decent roads from KC and back.

Lets just plan on meeting at the parking area at the Maple Hill truck stop on the south side of I-70 Saturday morning. Kickstands up, ready to roll at 9:00 sound good?

I'll post here if anything changes from that plan.

Allkid which bike are you bringing? The BMW or a KTM? If I came I guess I would drive my 990 out since my 300 isn't plated and doesn't have much range.

I'm hauling my KTM 450 as it is licensed and I would prefer not to ride all the way there.

I see you've got a 300 xcw....where do you ride it?

Mainly Chadwick and White Rock. Occaisionally make it down to Brock Creek or Colorado. My dad also has 30 some acres of steep, hilly terrain off of Colbern Rd south of Oak Grove where me and my brother have a few miles of trails cut in. Go there when I don't have time to get out of town.

We had another good ride today. My odometer was showing 122 miles when we got back to the truck. Hats off to MacWildcat's route- I think he nailed all the highlights since we did some exploring north of I-70 and didn't find anything too great outside of his posted route. I'd still like to poke around south of I-70 and see what there is to see. We'll have to do that next time.

It was a good day for a ride, despite the wind and crazy amount of dust- man, do we need some rain. All the minimum maintenance roads were fun once again, we did Box Turtle a couple of times (Chris got some video that I'm sure he'll post up), and the wind kind of waited until we were almost done.

All in all, a good ride.
