Weather is looking promising for this weekend! I was thinking of heading out to Finger Lakes, or maybe Perry or Deepwater. Any takers? I can't provide transportation but I can meet someone there.
If I go to Finger Lakes I will probably stay for a better part of the day.
This Saturday looks nice
Re: This Saturday looks nice
I can't make it this weekend, but Finger Lakes looks pretty nice from what I found on the net: http://www.mostateparks.com/fingerlakes.htm. Columbia, MO is about the same distance as Junction City / School Creek and the riding area would appear to be 5x's larger.
What do any of us need to know ... permits? admission? MO parks pass?
Thanks for posting up.
Answered at least one of my own questions:
What can you ride?
For a small riding fee of $5 a day, you can ride 70 miles of trails and a professional designed motocross track on your off-road vehicle.
Approved vehicles or equipment in the off-road vehicle (ORV) areas include all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), side-by-sides, motorcycles and mountain bikes. An all-terrain vehicle is a motorized vehicle having a maximum width of 50 inches, designed to be operated off road with handlebars for steering and a seat that is straddled by the operator. An ATV may be equipped with two, three, four or six flotation-type tires. Side-by-side ORVs having a maximum width of 50 inches, bucket seats, seat belts and a certified roll-over protective structure are allowed in the ORV areas but it is recommended they be kept on designated trails. Side-by-side ORVs are prohibited on the motocross track. Operators and passengers must wear seat belts when operating a side-by-side. Passengers are not allowed to ride in the cargo area of a side-by-side.
Any automobile, pickup truck, Jeep, dune buggy or any equipment not meeting the above criteria is prohibited off the designated roadway. See riding rules for more information.
ORV Area Hours
A daily riding fee of $5 is charged per machine. Two-day passes are available. An annual discount pass (25 rides) is available for $100.

Re: This Saturday looks nice
I believe the day use area is open sunrise to sunset. You have to have a day pass to ride, less than $10 if I remember. No state permits or anything required. Spark arrestor, nothing ridiculously loud, no wheelies in the staging area, helmet required if riding. All the usual rules. They will yell at you for riding to the shower house.
For camping you have to reserve in advance. Two sleeping units per camp site maximum. They have electric and nonelectric (I like electric because you can run a fan at night and coffee in the morning).
It appears to be best to go out there when it has been relatively dry and there were a lot of quads when I was there, but they are afraid to ride the areas I liked best anyway. It's very hilly. Here are pictures from the time I went:

Re: This Saturday looks nice
Finger Lakes area is on my list, just not this weekend. We are going with a group of caged friends to Excelsior Springs. Staying at the Elms, drinking wine and eating well.

Re: This Saturday looks nice
No takers? I would be up for waiting until Sunday, if I know by tonight.
Re: This Saturday looks nice
I'll plan my next one a little more in advance
Re: This Saturday looks nice
Just got back in town. Have a friend coming to ride this weekend from Wichita or I would go with you. Enjoy the slop at the bottom of the pilings!
