2010 MATT Quarry Cup Sep 18 & 19

Post by troy »

I'm posting this in Ride because I'm suggesting folks make a ride out of heading up to see the Mid-America Trials Team Quarry Cup competition. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to, but we'll see.

If you've never watched a trials competition, GO DO IT! It's really amazing to watch and the events are family and spectator friendly. I've found that most of the trials guys love sharing their sport.

Full details at http://www.matt-trials.com/

Quick info:
Sat & Sun, Sep 18 & 19
Spectators FREE!
Saturday competitions start at 10:30 and 1:30.
Sunday competitions start at 9:00 and 12:00.

Directions:
Trials site located 3 miles west of Trenton, MO, just north of the junction of Hwy A6 and Hwy 146. Trenton is approx 90 miles NE of Kansas City. From KC, go North on I-35 to exit 61 (Hwy 6) and turn East (follow signs toward Crowder State Park). Turn North on Hwy 146 (big white cross) and go approx 1/8 of a mile and turn right on the gravel road (N.A.G. Quarry).

I would also HIGHLY recommend a stop in Jamesport, MO and to dine at the Gingerich Dutch Pantry. Well, unless you do not like Amish home cooking!

Looks like I'll be up there for the Sat 1:30 competition with my wife and daughter. I'll be stopping in Jamesport to walk around and eat lunch before going up to the quarry. Maybe I'll see some of you guys out and about. 8)

Dean, the links you posted made for some interesting reading and excuse for further exploration. The family did not have time to check out those things, but we had a great time in Jamesport, good meal and pie, and the Quarry Cup trials action was a blast to watch. My 3 yr old loved it!

Some photos from yesterday ... a few of the families, most of one of the nine obstacle courses from one vantage point.

Quick rundown of how a Trials competion works (as told to me by a competitor sidelined by an injury):
- 9 areas (not sure what these are called, but taped off areas with obstacles)
- each area has to be ridden 3 times, for a total of 27 (another spectator told Troy twice ...???)
- each area has different routes marked: blue is intermediate, black is expert, red is masters (above expert). Easier routes were done in the morning.
- 3 hours to complete all 27 (or all 18??)
