Re: Safari 2021 News
I am sorry to hear about the inconsiderate behavior of a few of the participants. I see this daily as my neighbors let their dogs deficate in my yard and don't bother to pick it up. When I ran races at Perry Lake I had mountains of trash to pick up afterwards even though there were plenty of trash c...

Re: NEK NO MASK DUAL SPORT RIDE !!
Won't be able to make it. I'll be on a dual sport ride then heading from Telluride to Moab that day. The next weekend it is up the Kokopelli trail.

Re: KTM EXC 500 opinions
I've never used fuel stabilizer so I cannot comment on that. I just like to ride my bikes and doing so during the winter is a pleasure for me even if it is 20 minutes of running around the neighborhood. Eric Green at Cycle Zone has seen lots of bikes with plugged fueling systems. He would be a good ...

Re: KTM EXC 500 opinions
"Harvey", Let me add to my comments. The FI has made my bike much better for off road riding as well as on road riding IF you increase fueling to make up for the extremely lean maps that KTM is required to supply to road bikes. With my '17 450 I was able to get the off road Euro map installed before...

How about this instead? A t-shirt with this text printed upside down, "Is My Dirt Bike OK?"

Re: KTM EXC 500 opinions
I disagree with Troy on the moron bit. Crazy? Yes. Moron? No. I have a '17 450 EXC & a '19 500 EXC. The 450 is snappier, faster turning, easier to ride off road and feels much lighter. I have the 450 set up for off road romps. Zero issues. The 500 is still geared stock (tall) & is more of a handful ...

Nevada Desert Riding Near Las Vegas
I just returned from two days riding in the desert with Daryl Folks' Trac-On Tours. It was technical. It was fun. For someone not used to miles of sand washes, mountain goat trails & desert terrain it was, well, exciting. In the winter when riding is limited here you can head out there for as much r...

Re: Brrrr... Now what?
With riding limited to scraping off a 1/4" of melt and hitting ice and crashing, then crashing in the next corner, then repeating this it was time to update the forks and shock on the '19 500 EXC-F with this & wait for warmer weather: https://mx-tech.com/lucky-xplr-cartridge-system-for-wp-xplor/ It ...

Re: Ducati Scrambler X Concept at EICMA in Milan
Troy, This bike reminds me of the early '90's BMW GS models. A larger tank, straight forward design, simplified maintenance compared to DOHC engines. Fast enough for me at least, gravel road and easier trail capable and good on the road for longer distances. It is, in essence, the Desert Sled with b...

Re: Ducati Scrambler X Concept at EICMA in Milan
The rear brake assembly I was referring to was the master cylinder near the foot peg, not the rear disk or the rear slave cylinder.

Re: Ducati Scrambler X Concept at EICMA in Milan
The fender is what is used for desert rally races so it fits with the overall design theme. It is nice to see the rear brake completely protected, unlike the KTM 690 Enduro setup. It does need a folding shift lever though.

Ducati Scrambler X Concept at EICMA in Milan
This Ducati dual sport concept bike certainly stirred a lot of interest and, I think, rightfully so: https://www.asphaltandrubber.com/bikes/up-close-ducati-scrambler-desert-concept/ What do you think of it? No weight is given. I would imagine that it would be around 500 lbs. Power should be very imp...

Re: Iceland Adventure?
If your rental bike is through Viking Biking in Reykjavik they are not entirely trustworthy. Document everything including cell pix of the bikes, the suspension, the brakes and any scratched or bent bits. Parts are at least 3X the price here. A clutch lever is over $110. If you go into the interior ...

Re: Iceland Adventure?
I rode across the interior of Iceland from Reykjavik to the eastern coast & up to the northernmost part of Iceland which is only about 12 miles or so from the Arctic circle. Most of the roads were gravel and pot holed. In the interior there are no bridges so you face swift flowing mountain streams u...

Troy,
I'm not certain the USFS would be interested in your tongue-in-cheek allusion to Emerson's metaphorical pronouncement. Nice try, though.

The weather doesn't look too promising. Lawrence & Topeka are really going to get hit. The hare scramble in Carbondale on Sunday has been postponed again. What is your guess for Saturday in Manhattan?

Re: Go Ride!
You can ride without anyone. I do it at Perry were trails are now treacherous. If I crash on a rock ledge, a log or in a ditch I figure I'm a problem solver and can get out of there. Mud? Well you can shower later. Crash on logs and land next to a very big black snake? You probably won't be able to ...

Here are some pix from Perry from 8/5. A lot of erosion and ATV damage but still rideable. If you like rock ledges and wet clay.
