Re: TROUBLESHOOT: 2011 BMW F800GS engine cuts out
I thought it was applicable since it came from the F800 forum on ADV Rider. It sounds like to me you are getting a vapor lock due to a faulty ball valve. Read post #4 , #7 and #8. Remember free advise is worth what you pay for it

I thought you were riding with Graham Jarvis there for a second. He made those obstacles look easy and they weren't.

Re: Potential new rider looking for advice
I agree with AJayhawkFan, you can pick a KLR and see if you like dual sporting. Another bike to consider as a starter is a Suzuki DRZ. Here is a Craigslist for a 2000 DRZ. https://kansascity.craigslist.org/mcy/d/2000-drz400e-licensed/6339953759.html. After a while you will realize there is no perfec...

Re: Sat Sep 2, 2017 | Osage County Dualsport
I have gone to the cell phone route for my GPS and couldn't be happier. I'm using a Keyocera Duraforce phone which is water, shock, and dust proof (to a point) and cost me $75.00 plus $20.00 for a micro SD card. I use OsmAnd app on the phone which works offline so you don't need cell service or a da...

Re: what not to do when impaled ...
Troy you nailed it! One should never remove an impaled object unless it is blocking an airway like a stick through a cheek, not a butt cheek. Also if the impaled object is blocking CPR access. If you do remove the object be ready to control the bleeding.

Could see more KC area riders joining the fun if the nearest starting point wasn't 3 hours away. Sounds like a cool idea, I hope it is a big success.

Re: 80% Rider, 20% Bike
Guess you should have never gotten rid of your old DR 350??? I agree in principle with what they are saying and sure you put Wattsy on any bike and he will beat 99% of the riders out there. I'm not in his league and never will be, even with losing weight and practicing a lot. Having a lighter bike w...

Dirt Wise Class
http://shanewatts.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/title-logo-2.jpg I'm not sure if this has been posted or not, yes I did a search. There is a Shane Watts Dirt Wise class tentatively scheduled for May 18/19 (Thurs/Fri) – In Depth School, Kansas City, MO (Shane Watts: $390/$100 Deposit). A few of us ...

Re: Hillbilly ride Icon
So sad to hear this news :crying: I remember one time in Arkansas we had just finished a difficult section of trail which dumped on to a gravel road. There was this big down hill on the road and Dave stopped at the top of it and said lets race to the bottom. Everyone said sure, but Dave said everyon...

Congrats on the new ride! The paint scheme reminds of the Yamaha's of the late 70's and 80's with the great Bob Hannah aboard. Man was that guy a cocky SOB, but he backed it up.
Just curious why you didn't go for the Africa Twin???

Re: Open Letter to the Backroads Touring Kansas Community
Lets look at arguably the most popular message board for dual sport riders, ADV.com. They have a setup just like Troy described general topics like ride reports, GPS, photos etc... Additionally, they have regional forums which could be the southern Kansas forum where the BTK folks could post. But as...

Not Something I Normally Do, Online Recommendations
I recently had some hardwood floors installed at my home and I just happened to find an exceptional company, Accountable Hardwoods. Mary Fay is the owner and besides being hardwood floor ninja, he's one of us a dual sport rider! So if you need any work done Mark is your man. Here's a link to his web...

Re: Open Letter to the Backroads Touring Kansas Community
Great idea Troy! Heck you could make regional forums for the northeast (KC area) , south (Wichita area), western (Manhattan area). This way the community grows state wide with a central point of access, RideForum.net. If it doesn't work out or if someone wants to start their own site so be it. Live ...

How ya been Hank Moody?! We should set a meet and greet sometime this winter and get all the old gang together. Eats and drinks in a non-romantic manner! You are right, I would probably prefer the old fashion shifting AT, but I wouldn't turn my nose to a test ride on an auto! I have seen a cou...

Snowman I have known Joe for years and he is not kidding about following you around and helping you out. He is a great rider and an even great person. Joe, Shawnee Cycle had a grey AT on the floor yesterday, but it is an automatic and I just can't see you with an automatic. The guy at Shawnee Cycle ...

It's a dirt bike! If you are worrying about scratching your rims then don't ride it in any rocky areas. I like the Sharpie option too.
