Re: Looking for a good mechanic...

CycleZone was my next option. Since I have two crap engines now, I think I will partially dissasemble my original engine to inspect the connecting rod for wear. My "new" engine has a good head, so that resolves the warped head issue. I new big bore kit might get me by for awhile. The 435cc big bore ...

Re: Looking for a good mechanic...

Looking to do this on a budget. I am looking to restore reliability and a slight bit more power without ending up with a bike that develops other problems due to mods. If I was rebuilding a newer DRZ into a dream bike and money was no object, I might consider extravagant mods. There are many big bor...

Looking for a good mechanic...

I am preparing to have my DRZ400 engine rebuilt. To conserve the effort I am planning to purchase a top end kit (435 big bore cylinder and piston), and lower end rebuild kit (New crankshaft, connecting rod, and all bearings/seals). If I was only rebuilding to top end I would do this myself. The lowe...

Re: It's all about the kids...should it be?

Unfortunately, my wife and I are part of the unfortunate few that were not able to have children. Due to the work we do, we also witness the masses that never should have had children. This also gave us the perspective of many adoptive situations gone horribly wrong. I have seen the parents that tre...

Re: DRZ400 Valve adjustment advice

Almost every motorcycle shop will have shims in stock. Most shops will trade you shims for half the new price. Take your measurements, remove your existing shims, and exchange them at a shop. No need to shell out $$ for a shim kit when you will only use a couple shims. I shimmed my DRZ400 and went t...

Hmmm. Sounds pretty tempting. This isn't one of those daisy gazing, bird watching rides at a leisurely 10 mph?

I wasn't able to stay long, but it looked like the making of a fun day. Thanks Luc for the test rider on the 950s, wow what an incredible bike.

Re: 2014 Hillbilly Dualsport Tour

I had great time with a really good riding group. Bob, Phil, Daryl, and Cliff...good to ride with you, we fit together good for a couple days in the woods. I think we can title this year "Hell or high water". Close to Eureka Springs everything was fine. Thursday night an area SE of Eureka Springs go...

Re: 2014 Hillbilly Dualsport Tour

Didn't fully answer your question... We could possibly trailer both days if folks wanted to. If we choose to trailer one day, I am open to whatever day works best for folks in the group.

Re: 2014 Hillbilly Dualsport Tour

I have gas options on all my loops. Kingston to Kingston, none of the loops are over 160 miles. Kingston has gas along with stops in Jasper and possibly Deer/Nail if needed.

Good to see you again Phil!

Re: Post pics or video from your ride today

Quinton will be fine...he owns his own crutches and wheel chair. First time I blew a ACL in my knee was attempting something "brave" at the spillway riding area. Strapping on the knee braces every time I ride makes me consider potential consequences, ho hum. Add in the fused back and double fused ne...

Re: 2014 Hillbilly Dualsport Tour

I will most likely be looking for someone needing a bunk mate. How work is going I don't want to reserve a room knowing plans can change pretty quick. If someone is looking to split the cost of a room, LMK. David H. suggested a friend fresh out of prison just as excited by diversity weekend as he wa...

Re: 2014 Hillbilly Dualsport Tour

I think I'm ready. Been a long fall and winter, bought my KLX400 back last fall. The engine cases had been replaced by the Oak Grove, Mo. motorcycle shop. Woo, what a chop shop. None of the engine seals were replaced, and poor assembly resulted in a warped head. When I drained the oil, a alignment p...

Re: New Dual Sporter

....I had to wonder if Letko is under new management. I was asking about a 520 o-ring chain. The sales person told me I couldn't get one for less than $120. Sounded like an excuse for inflating their prices.

Re: New Dual Sporter

I perused a new KTM 500exc at Letko yesterday. Once I saw the price tag my ass clinched so hard I almost yelped. $11,000 for a DS bike? Maybe for a long distance tourer but not for a hard core single track monster. Yeah, yeah, if I didn't see the price tag it would be my top choice. Ditto the advice...

I was up in the Wathena/white cloud area today - confined in a car....look wet enough I wouldn't venture there with at least a semi-knobby tire. The shaded areas still have snow so there will be mucky sections.
