I have to wear some type of hearing protection with my job, even though most of my area is right at the threshhold of 85db or less. I really don't mind wearing it, the soft foam plugs are really pretty comfortable. They encourage us to take a few home and I always put some in weedwhacking or mowing....

Close one, glad you're OK! At one of the fall colors tours a guy had a flat and did the responsible thing and tied the holed tube to his rear rack vs chucking it in the woods.
It worked loose on a highway section, about 70mph with a locked rear wheel didn't sound like any fun at all.
