Re: SPOT Messenger

OUCH! I'm so sorry to hear Ann had a hard impact with the ground. I am praying for quick healing. Glad you are both still enjoying some time together out there. I haven't done any solo ride adventures in some time. If I do again, I will definitely think to get a SPOT or borrow one from a frien...

Re: Independence Day Weekend Ride

I met Carl near Martin City at about 2:30 Thursday afternoon. It would be just the 2 of us making our way down to Joplin. The night before, I created this 148 mile route. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/8817823 It was a great mix of gravel roads, dirt roads, 2-track roads, and back highways. With all ...

Re: Independence Day Weekend Ride

Scott! Yikes! In retrospect, you should have ridden home with Carl & I. We did a fair amount of gravel and 2-track stuff and took a longer route, but got home just an hour after you did. REALLY glad you are OK. More importantly, is the deer OK? Riding alone....I do it, and enjoy it deeply actu...

Re: Independence Day Weekend Ride

Home safe after 700 wonderful miles! Other than 2 or 3 minutes of sprinkles, we did not get rained on ONCE the entire time! The clouds kept the temperatures lower than normal. We got really lucky! Scott & James came down to Eureka Springs to make kickstands up Saturday morning. Kendall & Alissa, the...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edIUuCVyZvk The video link above is James on his f800gs working his way under a tree that had blocked the road. We were able to use James saw to cut the smaller branches to create an opening. Perfect day of riding. 6 riders did a 170 mile loop down to Jasper then back...

And believe it or not we are enjoying perfect weather today as well. Fantastic ride. Just finished fixing my front flat tire just north of Roaring River State Park. Good times.

Re: Independence Day Weekend Ride

Carl and I had a great ride down to Joplin today. We took about five hours and a lot of travel to get here. Believe it or not we did not get rained on once but a sprinkle when we first took off. Almost no wind and cool temperatures. The ground was damp enough to keep the dust down for the most part....

Re: Independence Day Weekend Ride

Sorry to hear it, Black.Hawk. Heal up so you can ride! I don't think I'd be too jealous of this ride as we are most likely going to be soaked. And I use the term "we" loosely as it might just be me, although at this point it does look as if carlf is going to join me. Kendall plans to join us for Fri...

Re: Morning Ride July 3, Parkville to Atchison via River Roa

Hoping for no more rain as the River Road can be quite muddy. Indeed! Some of that route is not very doable wet. A few years ago, a couple buddies and I attempted it muddy. Yikes! Took us several hours to get through and lots of cleaning wheels out. When we got to Atchison, we pulled into a carwash...

Re: Independence Day Weekend Ride

I plan to stay at the Traveler's Inn in Eureka Springs Fri & Sat nights. They are very motorcycle friendly and a good value. I just spoke to the guy on the phone and he has rooms open and would be glad to have us. The office was closed, though, so he couldn't actually book the room. I'm going to cal...

Re: Independence Day Weekend Ride

I just got a text from Scott--the Baumgartner Bros are OUT. :( Scott explains that his gas tank/fuel issue is NOT resolved. Also, he is having Internet issues and can't get online to post his own update. Also, I updated my post above this one to include the Sunday route I just created. Adventure! Oh...

Cool to know the Baumgartner Bros are coming! Carlf & I plan to ride down to Joplin together. We might take off about 2pm..still working on specific logistics. Kendall! It would be great to have you for Friday and/or Saturday! No idea yet on hotel. Maybe we can figure a spot you can meet us without ...

I need to pick up better rain jacket than what I have, any recommendations? The excellent Motorcycle Closeouts store in Smithville has several rain gear options in stock. http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/search/rain_gear Folks highly recommend Frogg Toggs. http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/cruis...

Re: Independence Day Weekend Ride

Troy - I have a weekly 2:00 conference call, but it usually wraps up by 2:30. So, leaving from my office by the Speedway, 3pm should work fine. Cool! So I'll figure to coordinate with you for " THE LAUNCH ". I'll inform the various media outlets that no doubt will want to be there filming this epic...

Good news, Scott. Fingers crossed. Carl (and all) I will be riding S on Thursday. You could join me. How early on Thursday can you head out? I want to hit the road by 3pm or so and really take my time on the backroads getting to Joplin. Forecast is still stacked against us. Rain starts Thur PM and t...

Re: Independence Day Weekend Ride

I just wanted to give a short update to say that I do plan to make this ride happen and don't see any reason it would not. I still don't have a full plan, but will get that done in the next day or 3. For the sissies out there, you should know that if you believe the 10 day forecast, it looks like a ...

Re: Independence Day Weekend Ride?

I don't have any concrete details yet and probably won't until mid next week just a few days before. I started some route planning last week. Here are some thoughts I had. I plan to take off on my F800GS Thursday afternoon or evening and hit a hotel in Joplin, MO. I am thinking that anyone who wants...

Man I wish I could come ride, Larry! That area offers some of the primo minimum maintenance roads Kansas has to offer along with some beautiful scenery. I will be out in Denver this weekend for my sister's wedding. (This means my brother, KC, won't be able to make the ride either.) I have one more l...
